Rejection stickers on Shell gas pumps?
I was very low on gas yesterday so I pulled up to a Shell station where I live in Northern Virginia. I noticed that there were red rejection stickers from the "Weights and Measures" department that said that these stickers were not to be removed on each and every pump in the station.
But I filled up anyway, thinking that Shell wouldn't keep the pumps open if the gas would harm the car. But now, after doing a search, I've found that Shell has been selling bad sulphur laden gas recently.
Does anyone know what these rejection stickers mean? Have I harmed my car?

Thanks for the response Scott Evil. I can deal with a calibration issue, but putting harmful gas in my car worries me. I called the Va Department of Weights and Measures and they said the pumps would have been locked immediately if the gasoline was bad.

Our company (physically located in S. Florida) had to replace the fuel sending units in each of our trucks and everyone's vehicle that carried a company gas card (Shell). From what I was told this affected S. Florida, Louisiana and somewhere else. Hopefully that was an isolated issue but I've steered away from Shell ever since.

not to worry, that particular pump needed calibration. most likely you did not get a gallon of gas for every gallon on the meter. either way that nozzle should have been bagged up with an out of order sign or the pump should have been closed down.

Thanks for the replies. I got a call back from the man who actually inspected those pumps and applied the rejection stickers from the Va Dept of Weights and Measures.
He said the gas was fine but there were problems with the display case, cracked glass and things like that on the pumps. So, no worries.
Thanks again.
