Reduce wind noise for your in car video camera?
Hi All, I came back from a track event. BTW, it was awesome. Anyway, when I checked out the in car video that I took during the track event, all I could hear was wind noise. I could bearly hear any engine sound. Granted, I was running with top and windows down. I tried to run with the top up, but there wasn't enough clearence for the camera.
I am wondering if you guys know how to reduce the wind noise in the video? Maybe a external mic mounted somewhere in the corkpit? How do you guys take in car video?
Thanks.

Yeah--the only thing good about a track day in the rain is that you get to run with your top up (which reduces wind noise). I've tried everything--including wrapping 1/2 the camera in foam. Helps--but only at really low speeds. I scored a helmet camera which, in addition to allowing me to mount the remote lens anywhere (like on the bumper), it cuts out the mic on my camcorder and replaces it with a remote mic that can be mounted anywhere.

Here's what you do: Go to radio shack and get an external powered mic. plug the mic into your cam, and put the mic down in the cargo net in the passenger footwell (run the cord behind/under seat). I got a mic that works with 1 AA battery. Here are two sample videos of that setup using a Cannon mini dv cam.
