I do it cuz sometimes the shop makes little mistakes that I can't stand, like others have mentioned. Also, I really hate it when they promise 29 minutes for an oil change when I have to wait an hour and 30. Yes, it's happened to me before, and that was the last time I went to any shops to get my oil changed.
Now that I have the Evo, shops want some $60 for a synthetic oil change. Not only will I save time doing the change myself, but I'll save about $40 buying the parts myself. Another thing, I don't want anyone driving my car unless absolutely necessary. I've seen what they do with my own eyes before .

I want to know why people call it Mobile 1?
To all those that talk about the dealer screwing it up; look at the bright side, they screw it up, they get to fix it, which is why they have insurance. If you do it and screw it up, you are SOL because your insurance doesn't cover that.

You can reach the oil filter from the engine compartment (unless you already added a lot of modifications under the hood). The Honda oil filter is not very large, so I found that in my supply of old oil filter wrenches only one could get a good grip on the filter. When you buy the filter, get a wrench that will grab the filter correctly. Also, remember, usually the directions for the filter call for hand-tightening the filter. If you crank it on with the filter wrench, you may have to destroy the filter to get it off later. I found that when I changed the oil last week, the only reason for jacking up the car was to get at the oil drain bolt to unscrew and later to torque it back on.

Start the car for about a minute if it's cold
jack car up
unscrew engine oil cap
unscrew oil pan bolt
jack car down to level it out and let it drain for a good 10minutes
jack car back up, replace oil filter (rub some oil on the rubber area so its not dry)
replace oil bolt and crush washer
fill up 3qts of oil and check dipstick, while adding little more til you get it right
once its up, replace engine oil cap
start it up, make sure nothing's leaking, and the oil is at the proper level (do this often for a few days) [/QUOTE
