I think you can go to ANY AHM dealer for warranty work. If it turns out that the first dealer did the engine rebuild incorrectly, then AHM might have to "collect" from him. However, your engine as a whole is still warranted by AHM. Your rebuilt engine is NOT warranted by the specific dealer. You still have the factory warranty covering any original manufacturing defect or any defect created by an authorized dealer performing warranty work.

If someone has better info, please jump in here.

Not to scare you guys!

I work at a Honda dealership and I have had one customer come in due to a blown piston. It was at the dealership a long time. Honda's are NOT perfect. I know, I see them everyday.

There will be problems but as long as you have warranty you'll be taken care of.

My 2 cents,

JE

Sigh . . . the car is on a flatbed headed back to the original dealership that repaired my car. I have a strange feeling that they'll come up with some reason to make me pay for it this time. As bad as my luck has been lately, I would expect no less. I'm back to driving an automatic rental.

I got to drive it one last time yesterday with the top down. Real nice weather, and the car felt great notwithstanding the oil guzzling.

Today, I'm back to hating the S2000 (my S2000). I may just sell it when I get it back.

Jesus, your repair guys are idiots.

Just get them to pull the spark plugs, and then, Voila! Tons of oil on them. Plugs, often overlooked, are a tell-tale sign that something ain't quite right.

Even though it's a high performance car, it's still a Honda. Motors are basically motors, it just sounds like the tech are used to just changing oil and brakes, and are not good at doing anything to the innards. I mean, really, how different is the S2000 motor than, say, a Prelude motor? Okay, a timing chain and that's about it.

Unless your Flux Capacitor or Jupiter Rings are defective (a problem with S2000s), ineptitude sounds like your service department's symptoms.

Then again, I could be wrong.

When I do sell it, it will be to a dealer, prob trade-in. Will they know all the probs I had? If so, how much less of a selling price should I expect?

It should be repaired under warranty.

If you sell it to a dealer, you should expect full wholesale book value. If you sell it to a private party, you should expect halfway between full book wholesale and full book retail. If the dealer sells it to a buyer, they should ask full book retail.

The repair should not be an issue, because the warranty should put the S2000 back to as good as new.
