Default Rear view mirror trim?

I was detailing my car, and while cleaning around the rearview mirror, a plastic molding popped off. It was u-shaped, and fit over the bracket that glues to the windshield. The top of the bracket is exposed.

My question is: is that u-shaped molding all that should be, or is the looseness/popping off indicative that something is wrong/missing?

Thanks.

Yes, it just snaps on to cover the metal mount.
