Rear speakers, New Doors and No amp
Just finished the install for all of my speaker upgrades. Many thanks to Goldtrom for the help- he truly knows what he is doing and I learned something
Used Lucid's rear panel with the 4" kenwoods to match the 6" ones that Goldtrom traded me for a bottle of Jack.
The rear install was pretty easy- hardest part (I actually didn't do this) was getting out the head unit.
Robert also nice enough to trade me stock heads as I didn't have the codes to mine and he has an after market.
Running the wires is a snap (literally) nand the end result is phenomenal.
Sound quality is quite good- more than adequate for me- rear speakers really add what was missing with just the door speakers and the upgrade to the kenwoods really cleaned up the sound.
I would whole heartedly endorse the rear speakers and if you are on the fence jump off. Even those out there that are not in to an elaborate (and expensive) system- people like me...should definately do this. Even though they are only 4" speakers that add feel to the music.
Lucid- I owe you mucho- many thanks and if you ever need a reference fopr these things let me know- happy to gloat for you.
Robert- thanks again and enjoy the bottle- I owe you at least a few drinks next time we can hook up.

I don't know much about audio equipment's pricing, how much did all of these cost you?? I'm looking for an audio upgrade, if you could tell me what price range I should be expecting that would be great.

My problem with the S2000 is no bass. I put in Infinity Kappa 63.3i's (very high quality 6.5" speakers) and I don't think even they put out much bass. The tweeters and midrange on them are very good, so good that you don't need the 4" speakers and can hear every high with them. You just can't get much base out of a 6.5" speaker though. I have mine crossed-over on the amp at 130 HZ and send the lows to a JL audio 8w3 in the trunk. I can hear the sub very well at stops, but in traffic with the wind and engine, I just can't hear the bass. This car just isn't the car to use when trying to have good sound.

I use the 1631's for the fronts and bass shakers for the rear outputs. The head has it's rear LPF set at (I think) 78Hz, same for the HPF on the fronts. I'm happy with the bass for the moment.

Aw : email me and I'll tell you the price ranges.
Fed: Since he has the OEM radio he used my harness in the kit. The Radio has rear speaker lines but they are not tapped.

My advise to all is to go with lucids's rear panel setup- around $150. As for the doors- it cost me one bottle of Jack for these- but I got lucky as they were someone else's that was upgrading- I think they too are around $150- not sure. Definately upgrade the doors and get a matching set for the rear panel- I think lucid will work with you on which speakers- but his initial setup was for the the kenwoods which matched my doors- lucky again.

Goldtrom's old rears that stookfreak got are Kenwood eXcelon xr600 speakers. They list for $240 and usually sell for around $180. I've heard of other members on this board buying them for as little as $120/pair.
I have them and am sticking with them for now. Lucid is sending me Polk 4" speakers for the back mounted in my panels.
I should have it all installed by this weekend. I also will be ampless with the 27 watts rms x 4 Alpine CDA-7876 powering the two fronts and two rears.
When a powered subwoofer comes out that fits nicely, that'll be the icing on my stereo cake. For now, I'll dial in high pass filtering at 120 hz or so whenever I play the thing loud.

Barry-
actually they were Goldtrom's old doors and are in my doors. I got lucid's rear set up with the kenwoods for the rear's.
Either way I am very happy with both- what is the peak watt on the xr600's
