Default Rattly roof catches fix?

I have a '99 white/red S2000 and the roof catches are becoming ever more rattly. Last weekend I did a 6 hour trip and they had my attention. I'm wondering if there is a fix for them that I could carry out or do I need to take another action? Unfortunately all the NZ Honda dealers are thin on the ground and the service I have received so far has been appauling and easily the worst I've encountered in over twenty years of car ownership, so I'm very reluctant to take my car anywhere near a dealer for fear they'll make a real pigs ear of it.

If I'm not mistaken, the official honda fix is to install the strikers from the hardtop kit. The only other thing I've heard is pretty complicated. You need to remove all the rear panels (behind the seats) to access some turnbuckless of some kind. This increases the tension on the whole top and keeps the latches from rattling. On the plus side, they don't rattle if the top is down!

Thanks for hard top striker tip Colin. I'll follow it up with the dealer. Gulp. The removing panels thing sounds a bit messy and I couldn't bear to be off the road

In the US there is a TSB which can be found in the library section. I just had this done as my strikers had become quite worn. HTH.

This topic has been discussed on this board since 2000. Just a simple search will find the threads that talked about the fixes to the problem. I'll start you off by pointing to a couple of threads:

Fed up with clicking sounds from latch!!
rattle from top? Here is a fix if you haven't tried it yet
TSB for Top Latch
Tsb 01-037
Just had TSB 137 done
Rattle with latch for top
Top latch rattle is killing me.........ergh!!
Latches Rattle?
Anybody elses top latches rattle.
Rattles

That should be enough reading material to keep you busy for a while. If you don't find your answer in there, just do your own search and I am sure you will find it. Good luck.

My strikers were replaced, and the rattle got worse. The latches themselves were then replaced and are quiet like new. The latches were worn.
