Does anyone have a problem with a rattle coming from the latches for the top? The left latch (above the driver for the US model) in mine rattles a lot while driving, the one on the right is tight and does not rattle. If anyone has any suggestions on how to eliminate this rattle I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

I fixed that problem because it was the plastic around the latch that was rattling. I stuck a piece of vinyl in there to make a nice tight fit.

Worked like a charm! Seems like a flaw in the car design. Easily overcome though.

White,

Don't worry, the ohter latch will start to rattle too! The good news is that is doesn't do it when the top is down.

The factory fix is the increase the tnesion on the entire top, this is accomplished by tightening two turnbuckles at the REAR of the top. Because you need to remove much of the plastic covering behind the seats to get to these adjusters, I've decided not to try to get rid of one rattle, only to get another somewhere else. Just my .02

Pinky is right on with this. Just a short strip of foam tape inside the latch, and the rattle is gone.

Place the strip so that the latch rests on the tape, not the metal of the other side of the latch... and problem solved.

Maybe when I go away on a trip or something like that next year I will have all the things addressed such as 1-2 grind(which I never have had), Top tightened, drivers seat belt replaced since the passenger side failed and locked up.

Hopefully I can make them scratch the rear window so they will replace it.

Ok, I have this problem also and can not figure out where exactly you are placing the vinyl/tape. Can someone please post a picture or more description on the fix. These things are driving me nuts.

Clovis:

Sorry, my POS digital camera would never show the detail we need.

But lets see if I can explain. If your problem is the same as mine, the problem is that the latches rattle. You can move them up and down about a millimeter when they are closed. This is the source of the rattle.

The objective is to take away that range of motion. So what you need to do is open the latch, and install something inside it that cushions and takes up this slack. For me it was a 3/4" piece of foam tape.

Mine rattles when I cross the buttons that mark the lanes, but it's a piece that is never under tension. It's just the cover on the latch, and I thought it was metal. It does'nt do it enough for me to do anything about it.

My right latch has what I would call a loose rattle, while the left one only reports when driving over road titties and such. I'll have to try the tape. What exactly is foam tape?
