i don't get it. why would rats even want to eat wires? is there some nutritional value in chewing on electrical wires? maybe the little bastards are just honda haters...
Actually - I think they eat the casings on the wires for nutrition. Not sure if it is true, but I was once told that electrical casings are made with a small content of a milk by-product which allows them to be flexible.

I know rats chew through Ethernet in the ceilings of buildings, schools, etc also.

Really annoying!

But hey - I scored on zap last night!!! So, one less rat in my garage. I saw 2-3 the one day I saw them scurry, so we'll have to see how many there are.

Incidentally - they set off my burglar alarm (motion detector) in the garage at 4:00am this morning. Now I'm getting really cranky about this.

ugh.

Rats love wires. At my parents' house they would always eat through the wires to the alarm system, always tripping it off or not allowing a certain zone to be secured. Everytime we would get it fixed, the problem would come back.

Instead of killing them just leave a tray of kibble so they have something else to knaw on, then you can take pics of them and post them on the pets forum...

Don't forget to give them names

Go to a company like terminex, and drop the $80 per quater for "rodent exclusion" service. They go around and seal up all the entry points and set traps. They empty the traps for you, and continue setting and sealing until they've killed everything on the inside, and nothing else is able to get in from the outside.

I find this thread to be intersting and now I am worried. I had an 86 corvette (which I sold to help pay for the s2k) and had very bad incidents with chipmunks and mice eating the wiring . they never bothered my other cars, only the vette,, which sat pretty much unused all winter. had to replace the cd player and a few other wires. my mechanic found a huge nest behind the firewall. didn't realize the s2k was susceptible. i used to put moth balls inside the car as well as under the engine compartment. hate to do that with a brand new car, especially since i do drive it when the roads are clear. guess i will have to get back to traps and moth balls under the engine.

If it is any consolation, I'm only aware of this affecting my S2K - though this is my second incident and in a different house.

I have mounted plastic moth-ball cake holders in key spots under my hood with industrial strength velcro - and I'm hoping they don't shake free. This way I don't have to pull them out each morning when I drive the car.

I also use an ultrasonic pest repeller gizmo sweeping under the car.

I used these after the first incident and stopped when I moved. I guess I should have kept it up.

Ugh.
