Rating Blizzaks in the snow/ice
OK, I have been driving for almost 43 years and have owned about 25 cars and the S2000 is unquestionably the worst car to drive in snow and snow/ice that I have owned. I have taken air out of my rear tires, put 4 -50 Lb. bags of salt in the trunk and drive like a snail and I'm still all over the road. I dont have a beater, yet, but after this rotten winter I am definitely thinking of getting one. My other thoughts are the Blizzak tires from Bridgestone. I heard they are much better than the S-03's which I currently have. Does anyone have them or have any other winter tire that is not only good in snow but is good in the snow/ice crap we get in Delaware.

I have used Blizzaks for three winters now. My S is my only car, and I have yet to be stranded or off-course at anytime, including this winter. I'm use the LM-22s this winter.

After several scary experieces trying to drive my S2000 on the stock tires, I decided to invest in snow tires. Greg Stevens experience with his first Scarlet S2000 was the clincher.
I considered the Michelins but finally got the Blizzak MZ-01 tires. The LM-22 are better for interstate drving but the MZ-01 tires are better for stopping on ice. I'm pretty sure you can now get WS-50 tires in stock S2000 sizes. This might be the best compromise.
Having snow tires on the S2000 completely changes the winter driving experience. Because of its 50/50 balance, I think it is one of the best handling rear wheel drive cars in the snow, after you get rid of the SO-2 or SO-3 tires.
Bassman, who used to post here regularly, is a musician from Stockholm, Sweden. He got the MZ-01 tires before I did. If you search on his name, you'll find a thread with his experiences.
Didin't you know? SO (as in SO-2 or SO-3) stands for Summer Only.

I am absolutely sure that the S03's are not the tire to be driving on in winter weather on any car. This is directly from the Tire Rack. You need to get winter tires on your car as many members here have and it will be better.
I don't drive my S2000 in the winter but I have Dunlop SP2000's winter tires on my BMW sedan and they do very well in the bad weather. And in the drier winter weather (non-icy days when I fling it about), they handle just like the OEM fatter dry weather tires.
Good Luck

i had blizzak ws-50's on my miata for two winters... hard to beat for traction and steering control on the slick stuff (both ice and snow). just be prepared for bigtime sidewall flex and "wiggly" highway lane changes. ground clearance was always the biggest limitation for me.
don't know about sizing for the s. usually you'll have to narrow down quite a bit, probably to the minimum for your wheels. there's always steelies with some fancy covers. i always ran black steel wheels, no covers and plenty of road salt and grime!
good luck.

finding an applicable blizzak size looks to be very tough for the S. i also have some experience with nokian's. i put them on my wife's lx470 (Hakkapeliitta 10's) and it runs like a billy goat in the slush and snow, in fact, it puts my landcruiser (on Mich LTX M/S) to shame. nokain makes a several snow tire models, and even has some "snowflake on the mountian" quasi-performance tire applications. i know that they're not a sponsor, but check out www.etires.com. they are knowledgeable about this brand from finland.
i think that the nokian WR might be the right one for the S. sizes are as follows:
205/50R16 87H
205/55R16 91H SOUNDS GOOD FOR THE FRONTS
205/55R16 94V
205/60R16 92H
215/55R16 97H
215/65R16 98H
225/50R16 96V MIGHT JUST DO FOR THE REARS (8.2" width)
225/55R16 95H
these are only "H" speed rated, but there's no getting aroud that.
again, good luck
