ran at the tracks yesterday

A 14.6 is okay for a first timer in a stock S2K. The very best at drag racing are running around 13.8 bone stock, and that sometimes confuses people into thinking that sub 14 second time slips are the norm. They're not. I would guess that the average person is running closer to 14.3-14.4.
Practice makes perfect. I've probably made 15 passes down the quartermile track and I can still only manage a best of 14.07.

I've only seen 25-30 s2k's race. Some were experience, some were not. Some were stock, only 3 were FI.
I never saw a n/a s2k break into the 13's except one guy with a 70mm single etc. The FI guys were hitting near 13 flat. Note all of these cars were on street tires.
Does that mean their cars weren't capable of much better times? No. It means it's hard and you can't be making mistakes and expect to hit better than low 14's in a stock or near stock s2k.
The main track I go to is also slow, it's San Antonio race way. In houston at Houston Raceway, the same exact car typically runs about .2 faster on a 14.0 sec 1/4 mile time basis. The faster cars were all at the houston track. On my sportbike the best I managed was a 11.35 at SA Raceway, whereas my first run ever at houston was a 10.92.
