so i keep hearing about how poor the s2k handles in rain.... but it's been pouring in the bay area since sat., and since i can't get enough of the new car, i have been driving it to work everyday. no problems. other then the oft-mentioned thing about drivers not seeing me and trying to side-swipe me [have a silver/black s2k]. just how fast do you need to be travelling to lose control? i take side roads to work, so never hit the freeway....

I haven't had any problems with the rain either. Even gone through some deep puddles without any indication of problems. You can feel the water hit the sheet metal under the dead pedal.
The only time I have had a concern is in front of the quarry on Calaveras, I started to fishtail a little in the mud. Releasing the accelerator straightened me out instantly.

On new tires the S2000 handles the rain just fine. As long as you drive smoothly (avoiding abrupt steering, braking, throttle...) no problems. Once you get some wear on the SO2s things begin to get slippery. For me this started at about 9000 miles. At 12000 with tread remaining (no bars yet) I cannot exceed 60 mph without hydroplaning. My car can step out like a Mustang under hard acceleration on dry pavement. Time for new rears.

My S2000 was a pre-owned one that had the S02s replaced with Toyo Proxes T1Ss. Seems like a decent tire (I've experienced S02s on other cars before). The T1S seems to be a bit better in the wet, not as good in the dry (compared to the S02).
I've been driving in the rain for almost the past week (So all you Californinas quite yer whinin' -- j/k).
I drove the S2000 on an icy night and it was very nervous, in part because we have ruts in the roads here in Oregon so the car wants to wander on its own. Just what you need when its icy out. You drive along and the car pulls to one direction on its own and the back does its skate (no pun intended) requiring correction. Nervous indeed! Hope I dont ever have to drive it in the ice (it doesnt freeze that often in Portland).
My girlfriend just traded her CL-S for an 01 325i so we now have TWO rear wheel drive cars. But, I guess its a good chance to test out DSC.
Now, if it would rain hard and wash away the darn gravel from the roads, my S2000 would really appreciate it (and so would the new Bimmer).
