Radio Code for $79.99?
#12
I didn't have the code to my Prelude. Called the dealer and they gave it to me right over the phone after they verified who I was (customer info on file).
I don't have the code for my Stook either. Can't wait to deal with that...

I'm sure the dealer is not charging $80 for the code. What they are likely charging $80 for is an hour or two of one of their technicians time spent pulling the radio out of the car, getting the serial number and tracking down the code, then reinstalling the radio (most of the time spent pulling/reinstalling the radio). And I can't say that I blame them, it's your job to keep up w/the code and you pay the price when you don't. On the other hand, if I were the dealer I'd eat the 1 - 2 hours labor to foster goodwill with the customer, esp. if they bought the car from me. Did you buy out of state or from another dealer?

Since no one else has said it yet, why don't you pull the radio yourself, write down the serial code, put it back in and then ask the dealer to look up the radio code from ther serial? I doubt they will have the nerve to charge you for that and removing the radio isnt a big deal.
Alternately, as others have suggested, call up the dealer you bought the car from and they should have the info - my dealer did not give me the code with the car (yes I checked all the places people mentioned) but when I had them do the seatbelt recall I asked them to look up the radio code and it was no problem...

As a follow-up to my previous post, most Honda/Acura dealers keep the radio code on file along with the rest of a car's information. You should be able to retrieve your code, from the dealer, with your VIN. . . I had to get my code years ago when the 1st battery in my Prelude died. . .

If your dealer didn't give you the cosde at time of purchase, then their at fault. . . This is a simple case of customer service, your dealer should treat any work to get the serial number off of the radio as a warranty repair. . .

I found my radio code one day when I slid the passenger seat all the way up. I lost a piece of paper in the car and I found the radio code. It maybe under or in between one of your seats.
