On runs with the local Viper Club (I had a '99 GTS at the time) my V1 would regularly go off 2-3 seconds ahead of the 8500s in the pack. For that reason, they always wanted me out front. Although there were a few Henessy cars that didn't like to wait for me.

I consider the V1 an essential tool. Although the S doesn't have the giddyup of the Snake, it can still be very entertaining to drive quickly. I grew so weary of the gendarmes pulling me over for the lamest of excuses*, and the V1 helped me to keep Barney Fife honest.

"There is a rock slide ahead on the pass, with your ground clearance you might want to turn back."

WHen I suggested hardwiring, I did not mean permantly installing the whole detector:

The wiring is "pernanetly" installed, but I can pop the detector off in a couple of secs. When I am leaving the car, I lock it in the glove box. I recently got another cable and mount and installed that in my truck. Now all I have to do is move the "brain" from car to car. 100% portable. (BTW -- I still have the coiled cig lighter adapter cable. So If I needed to use it in someone else's car I could do that too.

rueexp67, did you mount the remote using the velcro, or some other method? I've got mine closer to the steering wheel, but had to use the velcro. It works OK, but it would have been nicer if a screw/frame mount was available.

Performance mounting the unit high or low seems to work the same. I think the install looks much better up near the rearview, but getting the wires hidden to that locaton takes some patience and skill.

Double sided tape. The pic is a little blurry, but you can see the white tape in there.

That's pretty funny. I don't care what detector you or I have - I would always want you out front. Simply a much safer position for me. In 2 1/2 years the Escort has never failed me, but to each their own.

How do u like the Solo cordless? I have one but switched back to my 8500. It just wasnt loud enough and I could hardly see the screen.

The 8500 is so much louder and the red led's can be easily seen when the top is down and the sun is shining in.

I like that mirror mount the other guy had, how the hell did u power that?!? Did you use the current from the map light ?

No regrets almost three years later.
