Racing a NSX...

It was my first time at Buttonwillow, and third time on a track. I found I could outbrake a red NSX I was following and tended to be catching up to him. This NSX seemed to be able to accelerate better down the straights. I was able to catch up a a decent amount due to braking on the last turn before the front straight and saw the NSX spin out of the turn to the inside. We both looked at each other as I went by.
I think later in the day the NSX driver was getting things sorted out and seemed to do very well, while I was fading.
This was the last track session in which I still had the spring spacer...

I'm not familiar with Phoenix International Raceway but it seems to me you should never have to drop below VTEC on a racetrack. I know I don't on any of the tracks I've run in So. Cal. It might be worth the extra shift or two to stay in VTEC, especially since it leads onto a long straight. It sounds like you're giving up a lot of unnecessary speed and lap time by dropping to 4k heading onto a straight.
