By all means no. I've noticed that if I tilt the passenger seat forward there is more sound, this is simple, er, sound physics or something. Every system has an ideal speaker placement and no one would argue that directly behind your lumbar spine and up against your seats is the best spot. That said, there aren't many options. I feel that the sound is muffled but the overall depth is increased and, at high volumes, volumes where the stock system distorts, it's in fact more clear. So, no, not pointless. Not ideal either but a good bang for the buck.

As an aside, what about speakers in the headrest? My buddy's miata had that and it had an auto-volume-down-thing at lower speeds whaich was terrific. Any input?

HAHA - Wanabe, Maybe I'm a bit of a masochist - While Lucid's products were easy to install, building my amp rack and running my wiring was time consuming to be sure... I'm pleased with the result, but your method is by far the easiest way to go!
