I bought 48 1/2" rubber feet from Radio Shack (or Tandy as we call it), and some thin plastic (the kind you use for binding manuals). Cut the plastic to shape and glued to the back of the pedal. I then put two of the rubber feet, one on top of the other, in each hole.

The end result is a tapered bung protruding about 1mm above the surface of the pedal. Looks professional. Only I (oh, and all of you) know different.

My thoughts: I would have prefered a counterbored pedal (no backing piece required), with plugs already installed. I realise this would cost more, but I spent $AUD20 on the plugs and $AUD7 for parking, not to mention the time wasted.

FINAL WORD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay, so I just got back in the house from installing the rubber feet in the pedal and finally installing the pedal in the car. I fit all the feet in the pedal so that they were raised about 1/4 inch out from the pedal. Then cut the backs of them off from the back of the pedal. After a little fenageling (sp?) I fastened the pedal to the floor board. This pedal looks AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!! This is now the $60 or $70 pedal I wanted. Your foot just sticks to the pedal now (in a good way) and it looks so sweet!! The whole package looks great against my black muz mats with red edging. It took a bit of time a little sweat and a tear or two (j/k) but it was worth it. It's nice to know that the extra little work I did along with Mingsters already great pedal paid off! My foot is at a great position too. Due to the thickness of the pedal and the fact that I set the feet out a little bit more really made the pedal a perfect fit and feel for my foot. After all that's said and done I am very HAPPY

P.S. Mingster, I hope I'm still invited to the Dyno day we talked about?

If you don't want to use "rubber" plugs here's what I did:

1). Go to local hardware store (I went to Ace Hardware), but any handy man's store will do.
2). Find and buy appropriately sized wooden furniture screw plugs...these are the rounded wooden plugs.
3). Find and buy either black stain, black spray paint, or black permenant marker.
4). Find and buy either clear silicone or super glue.
5). Go home.

Take the plugs and stain, paint, or color the heads of the plug black. Test fit the plugs into the drilled holes of the dead pedal (hopefully you took the deadpedal to the hardware store to find and test fit the correct size plugs).

Now lay a thin layer of silicone or super glue into one hole of the deadpedal and a thin layer on the back side of one plug. Quickly stuff the back side of the plug into the hole with the silicone/glue. Repeat to all the holes/plugs.

Here are some pics from my install:

I had thid mod done for two months now, and have no issues with the plugs falling out or getting scratched.

Approximate costs aside from the deadpedal:

Plugs: $2.40 for all
Glue: $1.00
Marker: $2.00

for a grand total of under $6.00 after taxes.

Luder, I hate to tell you this...but you installed your pedal upside down! Looks good though otherwise.

Sorry guys, I should have clarified....the installed pic is deceptive. I laid the dead pedal at the angle I did just to take a pic....at 3 AM in the morning, I didn't realize that I laid it down upside down....I do have it installed properly though.[/embarrassment]

personally, Rich's dead pedal is fine like it is - of course, needs polishing every so often, cause its Al. but the knobs are optional at your expense, IF you need the grip on a dead pedal - the brake pedal and clutch pedal are there to grip for a purpose, unlike what you can slide off - which is the gas pedal. I thought I'd want the knobs on mine, but after driving it for a while, nah, I wouldnt' want em, unless they gave me a foot massage. that's my take.
