I'm not familliar with the valentine since i live in europe and never seen that thing before.

I'm running the Stinger 966R remote.. Since the valentine is a "window sticky" i can't use it since radar detectors are illegal here and you get a 300 dollar fine when they caught you and they take your detector...

A lot depends on locations. Here in CT mine works ok, but when I head into Mass. or NY it is much more accurate because the cops don't always use the same frequency. I find that around here cops tend to use the pull the trigger method instead of just running a spectrum/ array whatever it's called.

K-40 built in detector with laser diffuser actually works pretty well. We installed quite a few of these into high end cars at a shop I used to work for. You install the sensors into the bumpers and the led's and speakers where ever you want inside the car so its hidden away. very cool system. But the valentine has got to be the best all in one dash mounted unit by far.

I have had the V1 for 6 mos. and always drive the canyons.

While I think the V1 is the best, I'm not too impressed with it. I don't think I've ever picked anything up until I was within an 1/8 of a mile of the source. I was hoping for more advanced warning. I sent it back to the company and they say it works fine.

Haven't really tested it in highway situations, tho.

Yea, but in the mountains curves how fast are you going? 120? Maybe 60-70 if you are doing faster sweepers, and 1/8 of a mile should be plenty of time to slow down.

Maybe it's plenty of time for you, my friend, but I get a true signal amid a welter of false alerts and I have to sort out what is police and what is a garage door opener or a Ralph's.

BTW, 120 mph on canyon roads? Not on Stunt or La Tuna in Malibu.

Mark

P.S. To the OP: My guess is that the V1 works really nicely on the highway (I haven't tested it there much yet, as above) and that my experience with it in the canyons is normal. Radar detectors are not perfect, unfortunately.

My V1 always gave me plenty of warning time, unless the cop was using POP or instant-on, and smart enough to be sneaky about it. Great detector, but now pretty much rendered obsolete (in terms of SOTA detection) by the advancing technologies. I may well go back to Vector when they get around to upgrading the product.

The great thing about the 9500i is that you get good detection range without having to sort out all the darn false signals, so if that's bugging you, then you might want to try the Escort.

You shouldn't get any falsing in Cali. The chps are all ka, and a few rural counties are using K, but most are also using ka. All the doors are k in my experience.
