Question to Canyon Runners

depends on the detectors. its also depends on where the cop is hiding and shooting the radar from. most of the time you wont even get a reading until you're right in front of a cop while going through a turn.

It seems it would be too late. I can see them being more effective on long straightaways (like freeways) with sweeping curves. Wouldn't the hill/canyon block the detector in a curvy situation?

Hockey, sounds like you don't have one: Don't guess, you're wrong!! I just got a V1, and it's flat out amazing. In 1 day of use I confirmed a radar over a hill from about 1/2 mile away.
Where ALL radar detectors are limited is against "instant on" and laser (which acts like instant on). The only chance with either of these types is if you detect a cop shooting the vehicle next to or in front of you.
If anyone wants more info, check this site: valentine1.com

Ohhhh a new detector owner.
The V is a fine detector as are the upper Bell/Escort series. Several tests show statistically insignificant differences between the top units.
1/2 mile is nothing. I get +3 mile Ka shots all the time in Nevada. K shots beyond that. Some of what the whiners claim is falsing is really a true detection. But the vast majority of State cops are trained to use it instant-on. That gives you very little warning unless they hit some guy ahead of you. I have never been stopped with a decent detector, but it has been close several times. Several places are now using laser which is very difficult to beat.
They are all decent in the corners *if* the cops are running it on. If it is off and they roll around the corner and pop you, you are toast.
Basically it is a crap shot and a detector is an additional tool to help reduce the chances.
