question for anyone living in New Hampshire, Massachusetts, or eastern NY
I am going to be buying a s2000 at a dealer in Manchester NH on Friday. I've heard that the weather is suppose to be warmer than we have been having, so I am thinking of just driving it home here to Ithaca NY. it is about 7 hours and about 300-400 miles trip from what I have been told. to have it shipped would cost $450 - $550
so for all of those who live in those areas...................what do you think???? can I get away with it??? it will just be going into storage until spring once I get it here.
thanks for the input

depends on the expected whether.. if the roads are dry.. well then drive that thing!!!!! but if theres snow.. have it shipped.. chances are there will be snow.. and on stock tires.. NOT good.. I say have it shipped.. thats not a bad price. I'd rather see you spend a few extra pennies then total it when you lose traction somewhere in those 7 hours!

I heard chance of snow this weekend...but those weather guys cant predict the current weather let alone days in advance.
It will get a bit of salt on it that is for damn sure if you drive it. Might even risk getting a nick or two on the front with all the sand and crap they through on the roads. Upside: You can break it in ...in one day.

If it's highway the whole way I wouldn't worry about it much. Go conservative, and take your time. New S02s are better wet grippers then used S02s. If there is just a slight flurry I would say go for it. Then clean her off when you get home.

jimbo69ny, welcome man!
Hop on over to Upstate and introduce yourself.
Yes there is life in Upstate, check out the Upstate Forum in the Regional Communities, we are even having a Winter get together Feb 8th, you should join us, all details are posted, go check it out.
You will be closest to Testut, he lives in Ithaca also. Skip drives his S2000 12 months a year.
If you drive slow and be cautious you should be fine. The car is going to get covered with salt so once you do get home to Ithaca, you need to take it to a car wash on the first above 32 degree day and get it as clean as possible. The underside of the car will be your challenge, because that is where the salt gets and hides ad does the greatest amount of damage.

I would have said to drive it if there isn't much snow, but last weekend, I backed mine out of the garage to warm it up and change the oil. It's been stored since early Nov. I have a flat driveway and it had some packed snow on it . . . . . . .and I got stuck! I have nearly new S03's. I really was surprised. I knew it would be tricky, but this was ridiculous. Took some sand and rocking to get back into the garage. Unless you are putting snows on before driving it, I'd recommend not doing it, especially since I would guess you aren't used to the characteristics of the car. If it's as cold as its been lately, even on dry pavement, your first few miles will be "challenging". The S02's really need to warm up to get decent grip.

The S02's aren't very good in the cold either, and if it snow's you'll need AAA.
On top of the weather, isn't it bad to run all highway for your break-in?
If you do drive it don't leave it at 1rpm for very long, go up and down the rev band slowly (no vtec either).
Don't bring a passenger either, they will hate you for speeding up and slowing down all the time.
