Default Question about S2000 and rev limiter?

Im a new owner of a lightly used 2001 S2k. I have a question about the rev limiter. Yesterday before I let the engine warm up I pulled out of my neighborhood and some old dude in a Jaguar XJS wanted to play so I kicked it and the engine shut down around 5 grand in 2nd, so I shifted to 3rd and it did it again around 5 grand. Is this normal for the rev limiter to kick in before the engine gets warm? I know I shouldnt have done this but I had to race the ol man. After a few minutes everything was fine and it would go to 9 grand. If this suppose to happen and how long are you suppose to let it warm up befoer you really kick it.

One last question how bad is it to hit the rev limiter after the engine warms up? thanks for your help.

No worries, that's the computer protecting the engine by disallowing VTEC while not warmed up. You want to wait until the third bar on the engine temp gauge appears before revving. The engine reaches full operating temperature a few minutes after the third bar illuminates; some people wait that long.

Hitting the limiter isn't that that bad a thing to do every once in a while- on acceleration. Overrevving on a downshift can have potentially destructive effects. It's an $8000 oops that's already happened to several people here.

Congratulations on the purchase!

You'll hit the limiter early anytime you try to run higher RPM's until the temp is up to three bars. You should wait a while after you get to 3 bars to allow the engine (oil etc.) to really warm up before running it hard. Once it's warm you shouldn't hurt anything by hitting the limiter once in a while.

Thanks for the replies, it only has 10K miles and I was worried to death I hurt it. I love this car almost as much as my wife and the airplane I fly.
