Default Question about Oil

I have a question and I'd appreciate any responses. Thanks in advance. I've had my car sitting in my garage since the beginning of Dec. I've started it up and rolled it around once every 2 weeks since then, letting it run for about 45 minutes each time. I got my oil changed just before I put it away in Dec. I'm wondering how essential is getting an oil change now before I do any driving? I haven't put any miles on the oil that's in there, just 45 minute runs at idle for the most part. So do i need an immediate oil change?? Thanks again...

Sounds to me like an oil change now would just be a waste of clean oil.....JMO

shouldnt u change it after a lengthy period of storage? It says in the manual, every 6000kms or 6 months, which ever comes first??

Engines that are put into storage like yours has since Dec. may have moisture condense in the crankcase. Actually, running the engine at idle will likely not produce a high enough oil temperature to burn off the moisture but is good to do to keep a film of oil on internal engine parts such as the cams and cam followers as moisture tends to condense in the upper areas. The problem with water in the oil is over time it makes a nasty acidic byproduct that's bad for your engine. This is why conventional wisdom says change your oil every 3500 miles or 3 months which ever comes first. It is assumed that if you don't put 3500 miles on in 3 months you likely drive very short trips which does not produce sustained oil temps to burn off the moisture.Thats as short as I can make the long answer. The short answer is if it was mine a would change the oil its cheap insurance.

The numbers in the manual are VERY conservative. They are a guideline, not absolute.

I agree with JetMech on the moisture issue. When you run the car, at least let it get up to operating temperature. Take it on the highway and run it for at least twenty minutes. This will remove any moisture from the crankcase and the exhaust system.

If you see stuff like white milkey paste on your dipstick, definately change the oil!

So does that mean you should change your oil once before storage and then again when you bring it OUT of storage?

This point seems to be getting mixed reviews as some say not to change it cuz your just wasting good oil?

..And, whats this about being conservative? I dont know what YOUR manual says but on mine it says to change the oil every 6 months or 6000kms (3750miles).....so why does yours say every three months? And this is for the Severe conditions schedule (i.e Canada).....For U.S owners, it says to replace the oil every 12000kms (7500miles)....doesnt give a time frame.

your htoughts??
