I'm in Greenville County and I think my bill will be close to $1,000. Here you are safe estimating $330 worth of taxes for every $10,000 of car, or 3.3%.

if you don't pay personal property tax, then you pay sales tax or real estate tax or federal income tax or state income tax or local piggy-back income tax or liquor/tobacco tax or fuel surcharges or roadway tolls or higher fines/fees/penalties on driving.
taxes are a part of life. it takes taxes to keep the country safe, the roads reasonably well maintained, the poor off the streets and terrorists at bay. if you're not paying a certain kind of tax, i'm POSITIVE that you're contributing in on eor more other ways to keep the governments chugging along(especially if you live in California or Massachusetts).

In Oklahoma we do not pay a yearly property tax but when we first buy cars, we must pay an excise tax.... Mine was 1200 stinking dollars....
Sad thing is, if I sold my S (no chance) tomorrow, then the lucky buyer would have to pay the tax again.... never ending the number of times the same dollar gets taxed. Yearly tag fees are around 90 per year (recently changed from about 250 per year)...

If it makes ya feel any better, in Mexico (the country, not NM) this tax also applies, it's called "tenencia" and yes, it sucks. (If you consider the quality of government, roads, police, etc we have down there, a complete rip off).
I take a toll road to get from Monterrey Mexico to Laredo, TX back and forth, road is great, excellent condition and you can go really fast, cost for this roughly 90 miles...? $17 dollars!
Gotta love Texas for not having this taxation, but believe me, (at least in Webb county) we get raped with the local taxes.
So....as Ace 10 stated above, there is NO escape boyz... one way or another, you will pay up!

I pay $140 twice per year here in VA... $280 / year for an '02. Sucks ass. The politricktians have been "trying" to phase it out for years now, but it doesn't look like it will happen anytime soon. Vote Republican!

It doesn't matter where you live, the taxman will get you one way or another! If it's not your car it's your property tax or income tax or sales tax or capital gains tax or breathing tax..
