Mine was $380 something IIRC.. I pay it in October so I don't remember exactly. The year before was $450 and change I think. CT has very high property tax. The city next to mine typically has top 5 property tax in the entire country.. ours is a little lower, but not much. Don't ask what I pay on the house.

ntzz, you should be able to find the mill rate for your town online and calculate it yourself using approximate estimated car value.

in NC the amount you pay yearly depends on what they think the value of your car is. mine being an '01 they thought my car was worth $12,500 and my tax was $145

^^^wow, that's news to me too! I hope our government doesn't decide to do this, although it wouldn't surprise me if it eventually happens.

WOW!! I must've been clueless about this all my life as I have never knew people pay property tax for their cars in certain states. I guess I live in a state fortunate enough not to charge us for property tax. I do pay for the yearly registration fee which is about $80.

You got to look at the big picture. My Dad lives in NC and has to pay yearly tax on his cars and a "white" tax when he buys appliances.

His house is worth 2x what mine is, but he pays about 20% of what I do for house taxes.

I may not pay yearly on the car, but NY gets it back in spades on my house taxes.

And let's not start the discussion on charging sales tax on used cars. The state already got their cut when it was purchased new. How fair is it that they collect tax every time it is sold?
