If I launch at 3-4ks, I bog the engine. I tried launching at 5-6 k. I am able to get a good start but I frequently notice a burning smell after that. Can our clutch take 5-6k launches??

I think everyone who does high RPM launches will tell you the same thing: Sidestep the clutch which results in a rapid release. We used tro call it "Popping the clutch". If you release slowly at high RPMs, your clutch will slip terribly, resulting in the smell you described. That's not good for the clutch and results in a short life for it. Hold your foot on it, rev to your selected release point and just let your foot slide off the edge of the clutch. A rapid release will result in tire spin and quick takeoff.

For those that side step/drop the clutch please post how often or how many times you have done this and anything that broke?

I've done it a few times, and the worst I've had is that "slip" smell. Lots of folks have posted on this and I haven't seen anyone claiming to have broken anything from a side step

I expect to upgrade the clutch when mine is totally smoked. I like to call our clutches the "fusible link" in my powertrain. I've gotten that rotten spun clutch smell a half-dozen times (looking for the best launch) but mine still lock up fine if i do the "drop" right.

will sidestepping the clutch at 7000 burn the tires. Are you suppost to burn your tires, i know you lose alot of traction time. Dazed and confused. Thanks to anyone who replies.

it's not really the clutch you should be scared of. it's the POS diferential honda gave us. it can't take much of a beating...

Yeah, no more launching for me. I musta been launching perfectly for about a year and about a week ago i started to get that awful smell and it lingered for about 2 hours! I took it to the dealer (since ive never smelled anyting like that previously) not to long after and now they're putting in the TSB Clutch along with a Toda flywheel I convinced them to put in. Maybe a new clutch isnt needed but free install of a flywheel, im sure anyone would go for it!
