Problems w/ 2001??
#1
Hey everyone,
This is my first post here and I'm very highly considering getting a s2k. I heard that the 2001 had problems with the 4th piston. Is this true? Will warrenty fix this, or was it a recall? I'm not sure if I will get 2000 or 2001, so is there anything from each year that I should look out for? I appologize for the newbie questions, just wanna make sure I know what I'm getting myself into

There are a few threads along these lines further down Do a search on the board for "problems"
Also, for pics do a google search (www.google.com) and put in keywords "s2000 pictures"

The only known statistical sample, Consumers Reports, April, 2001 issue (the "car" issue) puts the S2000 in its best category for reliability/frequency of repair. CU also named it in its top ten and gave it the "most fun" award, most fun of ALL 2001 cars they cover.
Worldwide, there have been eight short block replacements that were probably piston liner problems and four short block replacements due to porous block that we've been able to document on this board. All have been covered under warranty. No new cases have cropped up in the last month. If you like, check out:

This car is owned by fanatics who drive!. If you want typical Honda reliability from this car, only sell it to people who don't want it. Sell it to people who really want a Civic DX or an Accord DX or a Corolla or a Camry. I bet if Honda did that, this car would set records for "reliability."
