Default Problem: Gear popping out at 1st gear

My car pops out of 1st gear once in a while (though not very often). Does anyone know why it does it exactly? And what can be done to fix it?

I know there is a TSB on this one, and dealers could fix it. However, my car is a grey market import and dealers have no idea about (and are not responsible for) the car.

So I'm trying to find out what's wrong and get my mechanic to fix this ... if it's a relatively easy fix. Thanks

My car was doing the samething a while back but in 2nd gear. After noticing it... it never happened again. I believe that I wasn't putting it all the way in gear that's why it pops out.

unfortunatly it is not an easy fix, it involves replacement of parts inside the transmission. i believe it was first gear itself that was changed . this problem effected 04's and some early 05's.

Unfortunately, I think you are looking at a rebuild of that transmission. I've seen 3 s2ks with rebuilt transmissions and none of them were as good as new IMO.

You might see what it would take to get a new transmission from Honda. Not cheap, I'm sure.

BTW...you have a JDM 2004? So it actually has the F20c and ap1 transmission, correct?

Hmm my problem sounds similar. I am new to driving manual so it may be my fault. When I am stopped and push it into first gear it doesn't always go all of the way into the gear. It kind of feels like there's a piece of metal blocking the path that you have to push more to get around (And not stop on or else it will grind if you are pushing), and then when I try to start driving first gear won't engage when I take my foot off the clutch.

I do not have that problem in any gear but first. '04 AP2. Is it a beginner's mistake or a similar problem to what OP is having?

Does it pop out while you are driving, or just when you shift into gear and then a few seconds later its out?

Not while I am driving. When I am shifting it doesn't go all the way into first gear occasionally (I think its when I am downshifting at a stop light and putting it in first gear temporarily). I am not sure though it happened today around 1 when I was at a neighborhood stop light. I went from neutral to first and it wasn't in all of the way, I pushed the clutch back in and the revs dropped, but when I pushed it forward it made a grinding noise and then I waited another second and pushed it into first and went from there. (The first time I was taking my foot off the clutch and I could tell it wasn't engaging first gear so I quickly pushed the clutch back in to push the shifter foward)
