Default Price check for 60K service

My service place in Berkeley wants $573 to do the 60K service.

I'm not sure how much it costs to replace a timing belt and do an egine tune-up, but this sounded high to me.

What should I expect to pay for a competent mechnic to do this work?
AND Is it important to change the belt and do the engine tune-up?
Thanks.

If you can do the oil, oil filter, coolant, spark plugs, air filter, distrib cap, fuel filter yourself(easy if you have socket set), you should be able to knock off a couple hundred easy.

How much would you say the engine tune-up and timing belt swap is worth?

Er, umm, if they charge you for replacing the timing belt, you have been hornswoggled. The S2000 uses a timing chain. Well I remember my previous Mazda Millenia, which did indeed have a timing belt. However, the unusual construction of the V6 engine, and the presence of the supercharger, with its own belt to be removed first, made that job require about 10 hrs. of labor, and would have generated a huge bill for timing belt replacment.

I have felt that the use of a timing chain is a definite plus for the S2000. Get your dealer to give you a pricing per service item before placing your body parts on the chopping block.
