power shifting through gears
well i have only had my car a couple weeks now. it's an 02 with 17k miles. i normally shift very slow and just ease through the gears, i even take it pretty easy if i ever do race anyone. but the other night i power shifted through the gears, and popped the clutch and stomped the gas through 2nd and 3rd, all the way shifting at 9k making the tires bark entering the next gear. my friend however said to me today that it is pretty bad for the car actually because most stock

There is not enough torque in this engine to crack the firewall like that (IMO). I can see that happening in a Camaro SS or a Vette, but not the Stook. Not enough torque to twist the frame like that (IMO).
But then again, I am no engineer!

The drivetrain is suffering the most from this abuse. Yes it is bad. What suffers is the clutch, transmission and differential mainly, along with all the drivetrain mounts from the shock. You syncros are also taking a beating from this.
I wouldn't do that to a car like the s2000. I powershifted my neon like it was my job, but that was because I was trying to pull the best possible 1/4mi times out of it (mid 14's N/A for reference) and knew the transmission was strong enough to take it and cheap enough to replace if it didn't.
It's all about how much you're willing to risk. It may be fine for a long time powershifting, but it may break things tomorrow...

Probably not. If you're really worried, change your transmission fluid and check for any bits n pieces in it. Probably isn't a bad idea to do anyway, though I think 17k is a bit on the early side.

Calm down! Your car is fine. Ever heard of Autocross? Shift at the redline at WOT (Wide Open Throttle)? Spin, Slide, Drift? Go take a gander a some of the racing videos guys have posted in the "Racing and Competition" forum. I autocrossed my 00 over 20 times all WOT shifting and bouncing off the rev limiter, it needed a new friction disk (clutch) at 60K and I went through several sets of brake pads. That was it. Drive it and enjoy it And your firewall has is made of steel and has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with driving/shifting your car. It is the structural bulkhead between the engine compartment and the passenger compartment.

alright well you gave me peace and mind about this. also one more question for you or anyone else. today on the way back from getting some jack in the box, and i had gone to an appointment earlier i was at a stop light near my house. when i started up, it felt like it was starting to bog from starting out to easy, so i gave it more gas, and it started to jolt, so i just shifted into 2nd and went on, it stopped, and hasn't done it since. it has been a very hott day today as it has been all week. dunno why this happened? or what not. hasn't happened anymore though. just a fluke? bad start off, wrong amount of throttle or what?
