I'm in a unique position when it comes to finances. My parents are willing to pay for all necessities (including gas) because I'm a full time student with 4-6 hours of homework a night. They allow me to use the money I generate for whatever I choose.
unique position?
Im 18 years old, freshman in college. I'm more than a "full time student" with 19 credits and working full time...
And I pay for gas, car insurance, car payments, health insurance, outings, and everything I choose to spend my money on.
I too bought the car when I was 17, but I've received no financial help.
You're well loved...

I drove a 1990 Nissan 300zx since I was 15 (parents bought for me), sold it to put the down payment on my 2002 Suzuka S. I just got my s2k near my b-day and I barely turned 17 in August. I take good care of it, and I work my A$$ off just to pay my monthly payments, insurance, and little things to do to it. Seems like 17 is the magic number to get an S on here!
The old 300zx
The new s2k

When it comes to finances, my situation is almost the same as yours.. my parents pay for everything and I use the money I make however I choose.. but I have 1 credit card which I use for gas, shopping, food, etc.. and they pay off about 800 (full amount) everytime the bill comes.. but they mostly got me a credit card so that I can start building up credit at a young age. you should do the same!
