I was visiting the Type R forums, and it actually seems like those guys are getting stock times very close to the S2000's.....
and...like many people here reported... many S2000's in the 15's.?
I haven't taken either the S2000 or the Type R to the dragstrip (yet), so I don't know what my skills (or lack of) will produce.
Thanks...Scot

Yes type Rs with a good driver are capable of turning 14.4-14.5s.
That is close to what some s2k guys are doing.
The type R is much easier to launch and get good times out of. It also handles the stress (ie launching) much better.

In the just completed One lap of America they ran at numerous road courses and also a drag strip. At the drag event, I noticed one S2k did a high 14 and another a low 15. You can see the results at their website... http://www.onelapofamerica.com They have to run michelin tires and those guys probably know road racing better than drag racing FWIW.

Come on guys, how can someone do 15s with an s2000. Thats a HUGE difference, it just plain sucks.
I bet you the people who do do those times do the following.
Launch at 3-4k RPM since they don't want to "abuse" their car, they end up slipping the crap out of their clutch, bogging the engine and pulling a crappy time
OR
Launch at 7-8k and spin the tires waaaaaay too much since they have never done it before.
OR
Launch at 7-8k RPM and get off the clutch slowly and really cook some clutch "souffley"
I have done a regular street start with the s2k and still managed a 14.6.
I have said this before an will say it again, please, to all those who are doing half-ass launches. NO more of those please. Either go all the way, practice first. Or just do a "idle-regular" take-off that should do better then 99% of half-a$s starts since when you bog your engine, slip the clutch or slip the tires too much, you are loosing TIME.

Sev notes:
>>>I have done a regular street start with the s2k and still managed a 14.6. <<<
The two I noticed in the Mid Michigan Motorplex event summary (see URL above) did 14.8 and 15.06... Maybe they couldn't launch or the motors were heat soaked or the tires sucked, I dunno. One indicator might be the relative times. Hmmm, a Type R did a 13.89...must be modded?
At each of the open track events (road course) they have to do a standing start from the track's start/finish line after first doing one warm up lap. The timing begins from 0 MPH so if they can't launch at a drag strip, I think they may be leaving some time on the table at the road courses too. Most of the cars run Michelin (Pilot Sports?) since that is a requirement, but at Lime Rock last year I noticed that due to odd size requirements some cars were allowed to use G-Force KDs, a distinct advantage.

How come none of you guys are hitting 13.8??? I mean even close to that should be pretty common with a decent launch. This is what all the mags show our car at. Is Sev the only person here that can get the car close to what it's reported to run??? 15's is just down right embarrasing was your ebrake up?!
