The only problem with the air bag shut off is that it will be hard to find someone willing to take on the legal liability of the install - unless you are really good working on cars and can complete the work yourself.

the cutoff is already on all '06+ S2Ks sold in the US----the 06+ also have 2 stage airbags while 00-05s have single stage.
The cutoff sensor senses the weight in the passenger seat and turns the airbag off or on. The airbag inflates fast or slow depending on the severity and speed of the crash.
The driver's airbag on '06+ also adjusts how fast it iflates based on how far back the driver seat is from the steering wheel--the sensor for that is in the driver seat rail.

to OP,
will the S be your only car? I have little kids too (younger than 7) but i would be a bit nervous taking my boys in my S.

I take my 9 and 5 in the S on the occasions when I an out and don't want to hop in the DD.
I feel entirely comfortable taking them out. As was stated, the car is safe and I avoid crashing.

I have an 8 year old son who rides in my 2008 S. The airbag is off because of the weight sensor when he is in his Recaro booster seat. For short drives on nice days, we take the S. On longer drives, we take my other car, 550i.
Personally, I find the S is pretty loud for a kid--studies have shown that people who drive convertible sometimes suffer from hearing loss. So I try to limit topless freeway driving in the S. Nevertheless, he loves riding in the front seat and it's a surreal experience to have your kid next to you. We have a lot of fun in the S.
Obviously, the safest position for a child to be in a car is the middle of the back seat.

Kids love verts. I still remember riding in the early 60s DeVille vert my sister's first husband had. That said, if I intended to take my young kids or grandkids in the car, I'd buy one with a back seat. If I wanted the car as an escape for myself and occasionally the Mrs., I'd get the s2k.
