Possible New S2000 Owner
Hey guys and girls,
I have been looking at a 2000 s2000 recently and have been deciding whether or not I should jump in. The car has 50,000 miles and is selling for 15,000. I don't know if thats a good deal or not as I don't really frequent this forum or am I actively looking for an s2000 to buy. Any insights? Reason for buying a used one is because I want a daily driver..which means I will take it everywhere and it will get dings scratches etc If I got a new one I wouldn't make it my daily.
I used to have an 02 s2000 in my possession for about 2 years so I am somewhat familiar with the car. Are there any differences between the 2000 and 2000+ years? I mean it is the first year and so were there any bugs? Anything I should know about? paint, suspensions, anything quirky etc Thanks in advance.
The first s2000 wasn't mine and was my cousins but he left it in my care for awhile. It was pretty reliable, never left me stranded.
I am coming from an RX-7 so I am a pretty mature owner. Thanks

2000-01, has a plastic window rather than a glass such as the '02-up. I've owned both so my opinion is that the '02 has a better clutch feel, but that could just be the normal wear and tear. The center console of the 00-01 also covered with carpet, rather than vinyl(leather) correct me if I'm wrong. Other than that, you can't go wrong. That's all that I could think of, if you guys has something to add..please...do ya thang.

Thanks for the prompt response Kero. I am aware of the glass windows on the 02s+ as the plastic ones on the 00-01s get kinda crappy after awhile. I did not know about the center console though.
The old 02
the old 7
I miss my sporty cars so I hope this s2000 will more than make up for it.

Average deal, if you're on a budget and can only afford 15 then go for it. Make sure it has maintenance records (oil changes, diff/tranny fluid changes etc)
00 cars have the plastic window, less speakers, also a lot of 00-01 cars had a clutch buzzing sound when you decelerated, also carpeted center console and the spring rates of the 00 are stiffer and tends to oversteer the most out of any S.
We fixed a lot of the 00 bugs by changing the top to a 03 with glass rear window, aftermarket speakers+lucid panel+amp, 03 clutch, 02 suspension and ricks leather center console cover.

Hmm Cosmo...seems like a lot of hassle with those minor issues. My budget isn't really set at 15 and I could pick up a newer model. It is just that with a newer model I would care where I park it and I would always garage it. With the 00 one, its already used and has marks here and there so I wouldnt really care if i leave it out.
I remember with my RX-7 I was soooo paranoid that I would wash it everytime I put her back in the garage. I only took her out once every several months! Original paint with no ding or scratches! I wouldn't leave it out for more than 15 minutes. It got to be very annoying!
So the 00 tends to oversteer a bit more than the newer ones? Thats scary! I remember the 02s tail sliding out pretty easily on wet roads.
who is this want one? ive been a member for almost 3 years

That's a decent price if the car's in good shape.
By comparison I know a friend who picked up a good condition 2001 with 34,000 miles on it for $14,500...I'd think you could get an 00 for under $15, especially this time of year if you search areas of the country were they actually have a winter...a lot of people who bought S2000's just to have a convertible sport car flip them in September and October around here (Washington DC)
