I'm thinking about buy this since the owner claim "no frame damage" from the accident. I'm gonna check it out to make sure.
It seems like a lot of the major maintenance was already performed. The only downside is salvage.
he is asking 9.5k
But I was aiming for 8.5k.
What is a fair price for this car?

I'd show up with 7k. It's salvaged. It's not worth anywhere near what a clean titled car goes for. It's one of the least desirable years (01), the engine has been f@#ked with (a headjob @ 100k+ miles? Unnecessary), junky Skunk2 springs, uses Mobil 1...
The seller is a liar I'm guessing. A car like an S2000 isn't totaled out for 'small front end damage', even if the fenders, headlights, and hood are destroyed. That thing probably had the core support bent in, radiator messed up, and frame damage in the front that was pulled out.
Save up for a REAL S2000 that hasn't been through hell and back.

I would really make sure to thoroughly inspect it; maybe have a body shop look it over and definitely do a compression check.
I would consider a salvaged title if the deal is right, but I would want to buy it from the person that owned it when it was salvaged. In this case you are getting all the info second hand.
Unless the car is just 100% perfect, I wouldn't go over $8k.
