Default Poor rear tire traction with wear

I have noticed that even though the wear markers (horizontal lines that indicate time for change) are not reached, rear tires have much poorer traction in turns. Casual acceleration while turning easily loosens the rear. Wet traction is at a dangerous level when there is just a little bit of standing water, e.g. during rain.

Anyone shares the same experiences?

I haven't felt this yet, though my rears are coming close to the wear bars. I have however read here in the past that the S02's are designed to be "stickiest" when new, that is, the best part of the tread is the outermost layer of rubber. As the tire wears, it becomes progressively less sticky (even before reaching the wear bars) so that there is a gradual transition to the land of less traction. Most stock tires are best after some wear has been accumulated, but because the S02's are so short-treaded to begin with, the best traction is available when the tire is new.

I have 11,500 miles on my S-02s. I'm amazed at how well they stick in the dry, and of course a proper alignment has a lot to do with it. As far as wet is concerned, I have also been pleased with the S-02s in the rain, although now that they are more like slicks, they are rather slippery, that's for sure.

Mine are close to the wear bars at 7400 miles. They still stick like glue. They are still ok in the rain at this point. I drive very cautiously in the rain so I do not expect to have any problems until they get past the wear bars.

I just replaced mine. They were still gripping well in the dry but once they started getting bald the ride quality became very rough and the handling suffered. It's amazing how much that extra tread cushions the impact of road irregularities etc.

Well, isn't that a given? Worn tires cannot be expected to perform as well as new tires. And with shallower grooves, the water channeling will not be as effective, which leads to lower wet traction.

Why'd you post the same thread topic twice?

check the tread on the inside of the tire.

They wear inside out.

This is happening to mine. I am feeling the car slide in normal driving conditions. I got about 14,000 miles out of them.
