POLL: How much is your monthly pmt for your S2K?

Good lord! Is my VA personal property tax going to be $600 for every 6 months?!?! My Civic was valued at like $13,000 by the state, and I had to pay $75 twice a year... that's somewhat reasonable (not really though). There's no way in hell it can go up to $600! I know it's a sliding scale, but that just doesn't seem reasonable at all. I'm calling the city tomorrow. Luft46: I've got the city sticker too... NN.
BTW, Rhode Island has the damned personal property tax crap too. I used to live there too. I can't get away from this stuff.

California's car license fee is some small amount (the "basic fee") plus a larger amount that is proportional to a valuation of the car, by model, by type, and by age.
How much is this larger amount? When California is flush with money, it's about one percent a year. When the state is broke, it tends to jump to three percent a year. Since we are roughly $38 billion in the red in this year's state budget (that's roughly $1,250 a head), there is currently momentum in Sacramento, the state capital, to make this license fee change automatic, so it cannot be blamed on any one politico or group of 'em. Increasing the value-based portion of the license fee to 3% would bring California roughly another $4 billion a year, BTW, just a little over 10% of the budget shortfall.
Thus, my license fee on an '03 S2K was about $330 when I bought it new a couple of months ago and could be nearly a thousand dollars when I renew it as a one-year-old car. Our '03 CR-V's annual fee could jump to over $600 at the same time. The new 1001 HP, $1 Million Bugatti could cost about $30,000 a year to license in this state. However, I just don't feel too much sympathy in that case, although the idea of sales tax and license costing six figures is mind boggling.
Oh yeah. I bought the car from savings and pay State Farm $500 every six months for full insurance coverage, with the understanding that my kids will never, ever drive the car. Along with the occasional aches and pains, being older brings a few advantages!
