Default Please tell me this is just a temporary problem!!!!

I got gas yesterday afternoon and drove some more. I drove some more today, then looked at my gas gauge- 1/2 tank! I didnt drive very far and I never touched VTEC (still breaking it in). I did accelerate hard quite a few times, though. Is over-consumption of gas a problem associated with the break-in period, or is this the norm?

...

not that i am aware of ...

but maybe you should fill up the tank again and do a mpg calculation to see approx. how much gas you are using.

from what i heard, break-in period may use more gas (and some engine oil), but it's shouldn't be excessive ...

it didnt use an unbelievable amount of gas- i did drive in a lot of stop and go traffic and probably put between 50-100 miles on the odo. 1/2 tank in 24 hours just seemed like a lot. Good idea on the MPG calculation, but how do i measure the gallons? I can find out how much is in the tank after i fill up from the manual, but how do i know how many gallons are left after driving for awhile. (if there is some simple answer to this, take it easy on me- my brain is fried from work)

Well, when I was breaking in my engine I got some where between 20-22 mpg mixed driving. Approx. 200 to 215 miles to every fill ups w/ spirited take offs. Now, I have about 8000 miles on my odo. and gets between 22 to 25mpg. Hope this helps.

Oh, it takes about 10 gallons to fill up the tank.

oh
heh, here is how i do it ...
go fill up, top off the tank. reset the trip meter and drive as usual. go back to the same gas station and use the same gas gun. and top off again.

the gas you used will equal to the among of gas you put in the 2nd time you fill up.

divide the milage (shown on the trop meter when filling up the 2nd time) by the gallon of gas put in the 2nd time ...

now you have the approx. mpg ...

oh, now i have about 1400miles and 24 mpg, i think i have somewhere around 23 mpg at the beginning~

This is what I usually do:

After fill up, reset my trip meter. At your next gas stop, record how many gallons you need to fill up. Divide the amount of miles on you trip meter by the number of gallons you just added.

Does that make sense?

I usually get about 250 to a tank (if that helps you at all)

This car definitely seems to use gas faster than other cars because of the smaller gas tank. My Accord goes like 320-330 on a tank, and the S is about 250 ... so it's definitely a much shorter time between fillups. Plus, when you're driving the S the time (and miles) just fly by, so you're always surprised how much gas is gone.
