Have them take the car at full Blue Book (private party) as a trade in for another S on the lot.

If your oil light was lit when you were at a stoplight, then you engaged 1st gear, revving the engine to move it off the road, you have engine damage. The question is how much.

Let's say your engine light was on a total of 15 seconds. At an average of 2000 rpm (some of that under load), that's 500 revolutions of the engine without oil pressure.

No oil pressure means no hydrodynamic lubrication. This mans metal-to-metal wear is taking place, and a great deal of heat is being generated in the bearings and on the rings & cylinder walls. It is likely that you have some scored bearings, cam lobes and cylinder walls.

Technically, it is possible that it may run fine after refilling the oil and replacing your drain plug, but the scoring will likely increase your oil consumption and increase bearing and cam wear in the future. The life of this engine will be reduced.

If this were my engine, I'd demand that the head be removed and the cylinder walls and cam lobes be inspected. If there's scoring, they need to be replaced. All bearings should be replaced. Make sure you personally see these surfaces - don't take their word for it.

If they refuse to do this, call Honda. I'd call them anyway to let them know the dealer did this to you. It is natural for the dealer to try to protect their reputation and minimize their cost. Don't assume that they are looking after your best interest.

Also, take pictures. The oil in the road, the missing drain plug, and anything else that is messed up. Get the name and phone number of the flatbed guy as witness to the problem.

Good luck.

I feel your pain. I had the same thing happen to me about 6 months ago, as detailed in this thread.

I was lucky, when I heard my oil plug go, I pulled over immediately and shut off the engine. I would demand nothing less than a full teardown of your engine from the dealer at their expense. You went in to get your oil changed and they did not tighten things down properly. Because of their screwup, you are now looking at some potential major problems.

Hope you get everything all sorted.

since i got my car (used) i have done everything myself. I don't trust anybody i don't know working on my car.
Especially a dealership! If there is something that needs to be done out of my scope I would find a reputable shop in my area to do the work! Ask around in your local forum for a good shop to change your oil for you if you don't end up changing it in the future on your own, now that you have seen what the dealership has done to you! Good luck on your outcome. I don't know how much you will get out of them but I agree if they do not replace your engine you at the minimum should insist that they pay for an extended warranty and a written admission that they messed up! You want them to be liable for a future engine failure should one happen stemming from their mess up!

I'll take a new engine and nothing less. If not just take them to court. This is the reason why I never have anybody service my car, never I said. All right that was once, I have the Honda dealer change my engine oil. They over filled my car about 1 quart over. I was really made and got my $ back. Good luck with you man

Am I missing it, what caused the 'PANG'?

From my experience, it was the sound of the drain plug bouncing off the pavement and into my exhaust.

That's what I was thinking, but I wanted the OP to confirm that.

There is a video out there of a guy with a honda motor with no oil in it, he is beating the ever living shit out of it for 5 minutes. It finally shuts down, but two minutes later it starts back up and he keeps going.

Depending on how long you had it on for after the bang and how high you revved to, you could be fine.

But since it wasnt your fault and theirs, Id demand something out of it.

If it was your fault Id throw oil in it, take it for a spin and see how it runs
