File the report with the police and keep copies of everything. Keep your notes of the licence plate and the names and ranks of all of the officers you talk to. My g/f had her brand new Accord (6 weeks) hit when she was leaving work. It was also a hit and run. The police said they couldn't track her down bc she was from another state. No attorney would take my case. Damages were over $5500. Due to the wonderful freedom of information act and the internet, I found her myself. It is possible to go online and find everything you could possibly want to know about someone from their licence plate number.

Should you have to take this on yourself, you will need to acquire the vehicle make and model, vin#, and the name of the insurance agency covering the car. It also helps to acquire her driver's licence number and social security number. When I approached my offender's insurance company with all of this information they rolled over and fixed my g/f car within the week.

Nothing I'm suggesting is illegal. You can find all of the information online. In some cases it is easier to pay an online service $40 or so to find it for you, but it is a small price to pay. I hope your situation is resolved easier than mine and you don't have to go through that process. Keep us posted and let us know how it turns out.

could you please help. i have her plate and name, i hate to do this through insurance, but i do have to report to police, they said it's still up to me to report to insurance, what i 'd like to do is call her dad and offer not to have his daughter arrested for hit and run, she said he's got dough and would pay. I WAS NOT PARKED I WAS CRUISIN AT LIKE 20 MILES WHEN I MEAN OUT OF NOWHERE LIKE SHE ACCIDENT LY PUSHED THE GAS OR SUM SHIT, I AM A GREAT DRIVER OF MANY FAST CARS WHICH I HAVE RACED FOR YEARS. I HAD NOT EVEN BEEN DRIVING FAST WITH THE CAR YET OR PUSHING ANY SORT OF LIMITS. THERE WAS NOTHING I COULD DO , EXCEPT STEER HARD LEFT AND HOPE THERE WAS NO CAR IN MY LEFT LANE, THERE WAS NOT, BUT SHE WAS GOING TO TAKE OUT THE DOOR , LUCKILY THE RIM TOOK THE HIT?
