Hello all, Has anyone had the Plastic window replaced yet on an S2000? I am due to have mine replaced, I have the part already (cost me $130). Paid for it myself, was tired of arguing with the dealership over the creasing problem. If so, has anyone have any problems afterwards i.e. rattling, loose fit, etc. Debating if I should let honda replace it or my local trim shop.........Honda wants 8 hrs labor charge.......geeez

The cloth top on the s2000 is a two piece design, the inner portion includes the rear window, the problem is not the cost of the window, yet the fact that the whole top has to come off in order to replace the inner piece......I got the inner piece from Honda (ordered through local service shop)for $130 his cost, retail is $149 I believe. But the labor is where the cost is, Honda quotes me 8 Hrs labor@ $65.

I read the service manual description of the window replacement process and thought, you've gotta be sh@@ting me! Drilling out brass rivets!? It definitely looked like 8 hours of work. Let us know if you get a better quote.

Tell me about it........ bad design, it partially zips out but the bottom portion is riveted.....they could have made them fully zip out and sell replacements in 12-packs....lol

You might want to take a shot at contacting American Honda. A number of windows have been replaced as a one-time good will gesture on the part of the dealer. Good luck, I know this has been one of the biggest disappointments voiced about this otherwise wonderful automobile.

This topic just goes to show the importance of keeping the window in good shape. I have a towel in the well, miata roll that I put on the outside and keep plenty of plexus on both sides of it.

As one of the first owners of an S2000,(got mine in Nov 1999), I did not have the fortune of numerous precautions that we now know of. Honda did not put out a service bulletin on the window care until April 99. That was my arguement with Honda Rep. He even blamed the well mat as part of the problem.....ha ha. Sorry, I am venting...lol. Although the 3M plastic cleaner and 3M cloths keep the window crystal clear, the creases do not come out with the hot water treatment (in service bulletin) or sunlight as I was assured they would. Hope the use of the noodle will help this go round after replacement.....Back to the subject, If anyone has had the top replaced would like to know how the job came out...thanks.
PS. Does anyone recommend any of the various types of noodles being made. I've heard the one Honda recommends(Miata Tube) only helps somewhat but does not completely prevent this.

In order to minimze/eliminate creasing, I suggest you use a terrycloth bath towel. First, lay it across the window. Next, tuck the towel under the top where it overlaps the window at the top and either side of the window. Now it will be held
in place when you lower the top and will prevent the window from touching (and scratching) itself when it folds in half. The towel also cushions the effect the braces have on the rear window. Any creasing that does occur will smooth out the next
time you raise the top and the weather is warm.
