Picking up new '05 tomorrow - Break in...
#13
Supposedly, the Vipers engines are "run in" on a dyno before being shipped to the Conner Avenue assembly plant. How many simulated miles are put on them, I have no idea, but this would be a way to do it.
I do want to ask about a previous post....Someone just said to not change the factory oil fill for 7,500 miles. Why is that? Are they putting something in the oil at the factory that they want you to leave in there?
Reason I ask is....On my Viper, I changed the oil at 250 miles and there was a LOT of "sparkle" in the oil. Changed again at 1,000 miles, and there was a lot less. Again at 3,000 and there was no sparkle and I assumed the regular oil intervals then. I can't imagine not getting that new engine wear metal out of there.....I would like to hear what you guys know about this.
Thanks!

From what I've been told, is that the "new car" oil is a little bit more "grainy" to help the engine break in.
I'm not sure if I believe it or not. I haven't heard anything from a 100% reliable source. I've been hoping that someone on this forum could answer this question...
