After installing my dash kit, I didn't like the look of the all-titanium (which truthfully, is aluminum...there is no gold hue to the finish) radio door so when I went to yank it off, remarkably some blue color came with it and really made the door look like crap. Now...opinions vary I know, and some (hell, maybe ALL) of you will think this is worse, but I took another section of the kit I didn't use and got inspired. There were parts of the radio door that were lighter than others following the dash section pull away so I cut up some aluminum triangles...got some silver touch up paint and went Picasso on it. I ordered a new radio door ($28) from my dealer and had originally scheduled to have them put it on when I go in for the spark plug TSB but the more I look down at this "sistine chapel" of mine, the more I like it. Weird eh?
The funny thing is my friend said..."that artwork does a better job of hiding the radio than that door EVER did standing alone."
Never thought I use my own S2K as a personal etch-a-sketch, but it does send out a Michangelo-sort of vibe doesn't it?

Nope...it's on until Thursday at the earliest.
Had I not been able to get a replacement door, (ordered BEFORE having my fun) I'd be on the ledge of a building right now.

Is that diamond plate flooring?

I guess different things are cool in New England.

I would be laughed right out of the Bay Area Owners Group if I showed up with something like that in my car.

Very cool, Russ! Really!

When is the new radio door scheduled to arrive? Just curious.

Next Thursday. BTW, I asked my next door neighbor's little girl if she wanted to decorate my radio door and her mom freaked! "I can't let her do that to your car, my lord!" I tried to convince her it would be fun and that I had already ordered another one. I swear guys....the more I look at it while driving, the more I like it. If Honda came out with a limited # of celebrity painted radio doors, they'd probably sell 'em all on eBAY. Not for everyone I know, but then again, neither are my mats, which for some strange reason, resonate with everyone who has seen them in person (so far). I cleaned them today....took ten seconds. Not sure Scott about where you live...these mats originated in Southern California!
Utah...are you talking about the mats or the art deco radio door? If it's the former, I'm not sure it applies since the mats are quite functional. They're much lighter than the stock mats and a helluva lot easier to keep clean. The stock mats are quite cheap actually, unforgiving considering the car costs more than $30K. To replace these OEM mats cost MORE than the diamond plate ones so why pay more for something that to me...is worse? Not rice in my book. If you're talking about the door, I'm still not sure how that is "rice" considering the circumstances behind it. This isn't a five-inch tach sitting on the dash.
Just a fun way to make do while I wait for the newbie door. However...if my girl (who's due back in town tomorrow) likes it, the door will stay as is for awhile. I'm serious when I say if this car of mine was being sold on eBAY as is and the owner was a famous painter, etc...this door would be all the rave. Now, how silly is THAT?
I was thinking though....had I superglued the face plates of three non working VDO's on there now THAT would be rice!
