I think some states have gotten a little too income hungry when it comes to personalized plates. In MD they're called 'Vanity Plates' and the fee, in addition to the normal registration fee, is $50 per year. I'm not buying. If there were an extra initial fee to make the plate plus an extra dollar per month, I might go for it, but not an extra dollar every week (with two weeks off) for as long as I use the plate.
