Help! Today, I was driving back to work from lunch in Atlanta traffic (in a hurrrrrry!). At the intersection with two forward lines and one left turn line plus a right turn line. (I'm in the fast line going straight) When the light turned green, this car in front of me is moving in a turtle motion. At first, I told myself that is fine just wait till there is room later for me to pass. But the lady in the car actually slow down (almost to a stop!) and had her left turn signal on (there weren't any car either to the left or behind me, except to the right)
At this time I'm still behind the intersection (there are cars on the right, and I don't want to pass her on the left - at the intersection!!! Especially there is a child in that car (guess what, I can see the head of the child over the headrest; which means that the child is actually standing on the seat!), I didn't want to cause an accident) But finally she move out of way (enough for me to go through, but I was p!$$ed already! There were about 7 cars already had passed me on the (right) slow line.
I couldn't control myself (Road Rage!) I stumpped on the gas, passed Vtec, and I wasn't even watching the Tech; because I had my eyes on the traffic in front of me and (not quite) both sides of me. (I'm usually pretty good on my S2000, I didn't even VETC until at least over 1,000 miles on my car and never passed 7,500 RPM.) I didn't have my eyes on the Tech! This time the VETC range feel so short! I went passed the REDLINE! I heard a click (Asumming that's Rev-Limiter). I hope I didn't damage anything internally??? Anyone knows or have done it? How's your car now?? I'm kind of worried now. I had this car for less than 3 weeks!
Thanks!

Don't worry about it. That's what the rev limiter is for. If you downshift and pass redline that could be a problem because the rev limiter isn't in control of the RPM's but since you were accelerating you're fine.

The rev limiter saved you. You probably didn't get above the redline much, if any. The bars on the tach above 9k will ALL blink when on the rev limiter.

If you stay at 9000 too long, your body will start to fade out as you transition into another dimension

Worry about going past redline on an improper downshift, not acceleration.

That's when you lunch your motor. Rods stretch, things that aren't supposed to make contact hit, huge $$ signs flash before your eyes and fly out of your wallet...

FYI, auto-crossers(myself included) in particular hit the rev limiter, and stay on it, at practically every event(when this is faster than upshifting for a too short stretch).

So the only thing you should worry about then, is that you normally under-use your car !

I can't be sure about any side effects if you hit your rev-limiter but I would think NONE because like everyone said the rev limiter is there to protect us from frying the rods and other relevant things. Ever since I have the car, I probably hit my rev-limiter about 5 times. Usually, I would not downshift but shift in neutral real quick before engaging in shifting again. Things seem to be OK.

You are fine as long as you are upshifting...1st to 2nd to 3rd and so forth,,,but it is a different story when you bounce the redline going from 3rd to 2nd to 1st..the engine can't stop the weight of the car...
