I used to leave my top down, but not anymore.
Once I was parked in shopping centre, someone going by spit, a large glob of bubble gum , which landed on centre console,
In the hot sun, the gum spread and stuck.
It was very difficult to remove.
I was lucky that it didn't land on the carpet.

like I said I'm not really afraid of anyone stealing anything. Rather I'm afraid of them tossing in crap like a drink or a milkshake or something

I think I got y'all beat with my Jeep. I'll leave the top down and take the doors off. Some times I leave it like this for a week or so parked out side. In the last year I've never had a problem. . . of course, I leave nothing in the Jeep. Besides, even if the top was up and everything locked someone could just UNZIP THE WINDOW to get in. Very convenient for would-be theives and they don't slice up your top.
Seriously, I don't leave stuff in my cars for people to steel. Gives them less incentive to break in. Plus, both my Jeep and the Miata require a coded key to start the ignition.

If I leave mine with the top down, its either in my drive, in sight, or i'm only gonna be gone a few mins.
If left out of sight, I put the window's up, close the radio flap. and lock the secret compartment.
