Paint Peeling!!!

Hate to say it but the only other time I've heard of this was on Pantera's shipped from Europe (late 70's). The car may have been damaged and the area in question "repainted"....resulting in the orange peel.

Just got my new 2001 Sk2 two weeks ago and at the time of delivery I noticed the front bumper paint was peeling in one spot between the headlight and the hood/nose area. A new car with 22 miles on it shouldn't have the bumper repainted....where is Honda quality control system?
The service manager came out and said he has seen this in the past and would take care of it. I talked to another body shop and they said the whole front bumper needs to come off and be repainted and not touched up.
Taking the car in this coming week and will let you know what happens....but I want the whole bumper repainted!

Just came back from the Honda dealer....Honda wanted to touch up the bumper...but I demanded they repaint the entire bumper! 10 minutes later....they told me they will repaint the front bumper free of charge. The car will be in shop for two days...but I want the car perfect!

My white MY2000 S2000 has the peeling paint on both sides of the front bumper under the headlights at the crease. It appears that the bumper, made of plastic, and the fender, made of steel, expand and contract at different rates with varying temperatures and the two pieces of the body rub against each other, causing the paint to split and peel. I will notify the dealer and have them make note of it and will have it repaired if it gets worse, sometime closer to the warranty expiration, if need be. Same situation with the clutch rattle and 1-2 gear grind problems....will have the dealer make note and get as much life out of the existing equipment prior to having it all repaired before the warranty expires.

"This is a big Honda grey area. They tell you that Honda spoilers come unpainted and they charge a TON to paint it. Then I see all kinds of Honda parts places shipping painted spoilers. In fact, I just ordered one for my girlfriends car....and it was in the box, never touched and painted perfectly. Honestly, I think they ship all major parts (the plastic stuff anyway) already painted. They certainly do with bike parts.....that is why it wouldn't shock me with car parts."
All of the Accessory spoilers come from Honda painted. As for repair parts, mirrors, door handles and small items come painted also, except sometimes they will replace the multiple different painted ones with a single primered one after a few years. Bumpers, fenders etc never come from Honda painted. Bumpers are shipped from Honda in large plastic bags with just a real thin (less than 1/8") protective wrap around the surface so even unpainted they can easily get damaged and would never survive with paint.

Almost two weeks ago my front bumper was repainted to solve the peeling problem. NOW the same spot is peeling again! Honda doesn't know what the problem is and told me to take it back to the body shop that fixed it the first time. The body shop stated it's the bumper itself, that it is contaminated. I tend to believe the body shop because I saw the work they put in to the bumper to fix it the first time and it is peeling in the same spot again. The solution is to replace the bumper. The body Shop will take to Honda and get back to me.
