Paint experts please!
Well I bought my S used a couple yrs ago and I noticed the hood and front fenders had been resprayed but they looked fine so I didnt think anything about it. I think they were just trying to fill in some rock chips cuase there hasnt been any major damage to any of the panels. Anyway.....Now the cheap respray they had done is comeing back to haunt me. It looks like the clear and top layer of "new" paint is peeling starting around the thing they didnt take off for the respray..eg. sidemarkers, windshield washer nozzles. I have some extra cash to get them repainted but I want to make sure theyre done right this time. Im thinking that I should sand or strip the paint off the fenders and hood before I take ot to the body shop so they have a fresh canvas to work on and itll save me some $ on labor. Do you think I should bother or just let them go for it?

if i were you, i'd ask around in your local forum and get someone local who knows more about the process to help you with it, and go to a place that gives a lifetime warranty on their work. i slowly started to notice a similarly sloppy paint job on my car as well. but now that's all getting taken care of

I had this done on my last car. They clear coated everything including the lights. Eventually I had clearcoat failure on nearly all panels. Just make sure you know which panels have been resprayed and get them done properly.

if you know anything about body work, then go ahead. Or if u just wanna learn, take ur time and work ur way through it. It's not necessarily hard to prep, just takes LOTS of time to get it just right. And yes, it will save u some money and time. A lot of the money they charge for a paintjob is in the prep work. Also, some paint shops will not paint unless they do the prep work due to warranty issues and such, so ask around.
