OverREV? You probably were underinformed.

You either have a feel for driving a manual box car or you don't.
Do you really think that someone driving @7000 RPM in 4th needs to check a chart to see that downshifting to 2nd is a bad idea? If you need a chart then you need an auto box or learn the basic principles of how a car works.

"Before downshifting, make sure the engine will not go into the tachometer's red zone"
"After closing the refrigerator, make sure the light went off."
"Before picking up the phone, make sure it has a dial tone"
"Before purchasing a can of vegetables, make sure the contents aren't spoiled"

Well, maybe it doesn't make sense for McDonald's to serve 190 deg. coffee, but whether it is 130 deg. or 190 deg., I (and most sensible people) know it is hot and shouldn't be placed near ones genitals. I think the temperature is irrelevant. What is relevant is that someone spilled coffee on themselves out of there own actions and was able to blame it on someone else and get paid. I am sure millions of people ordered the 190 deg. coffee and were able to ascertain that it was hot, therefore taking care not to douse their body in it. This country is going to hell..

Couldn't agree with you more, Paul. Gary already summed up my thoughts in his prior post. Well said Gary.
IMO, this isn't about common sense, traffic laws, or Mickie D's coffee burns - it's about proper disclosure and what the reasonably prudent person should be able to understand. I also see this as a legal blunder on Honda's part and a possible loophole for additional warranty claims. You can bet that if I [KNOCK ON WOOD] blow my engine I will discuss the "lack of information" in the manual with my lawyer. And I would also be willing to bet that many of you folks would as well.
BTW, Paul, your Element is a nice ride.

Paul - not to be taken the wrong way, but looking for stupid loopholes like this is basically an a-hole move. This is just like suing someone because they bumped (bumped being the key word, not totalled) you at a stoplight.... why sue? Because they can!...... but a decent person wouldn't. Just the same as if a decent person overrev's they should own up to it....
The world is full of bogus workers comp claims, lawsuits and now you are trying to help idiots who cannot drive "claim" that it is honda's fault for not putting the words "don't shift into a low gear at high speed stupid shit, or you engine will blow apart".....
I am not even that old (33), so it is not like I am "from the old school", but if you play, you have to be able to pay... not blame it on everyone!
Everyone wants to be a victim!!!!!!

Well since this is more of an ethusiast car and not some family daily driver for carpool, the instructions might be directed at a generally more knowledgable driver. I mean they do take their target market into consideration when writing these things up. I mean you should know how to drive your car...don't expect some manual to tell you how to drive it.
