Opinions please on Alarms

I know it's been lightly touched on, but I'm debating between the OEM alarm and an aftermarket one. I know the aftermarkets are cheaper and better, but I like the fact that the OEM one is, obviously, OEM.
Anyways, could you guys please post your opinions, and also what kind of alarm you have, the cost, and how it's worked for you? For me parking with the top down isn't an issue, but I would like it if someone bumped into my car to have the alarm go off.

Honda OEM alarm for S2K does not have a motion sensor. If someone bumped your car the alarm would not go off with the OEM system.
I have a UNGO Box alarm system in my SUV and have been very happy with it. I don't remember the price. It's been to many years. Not even sure if they are still in business.

Hi Jay
I had the original stock Honda alarm in my s2k and wanted to have proximity protection. I had a Clifford alarm intstalled and it is great: The installer used the original hook up for the Honda alarm. My Clifford alarm automatically locks and unlocks the doors when the rpms reaxch a certain level, has 8 or so alarm sounds to choose from, offers the ability to program sensitivity for both proximity and break in, opens the trunk, has a valet mode and, overall seems to offer me all the features I wanted. There is also a hijack mode that I do not use. I don't remember exactly how much I paid for it installed, but so far I am quite pleased.

I'm not quite sure how proximity protection works, but I do not understand why anyone in the world would want an alarm that goes off whenever someone bumps your car, or a truck or group of guys on Harleys rides by. Has there ever been a verified incident in the past, say 5 years, when the theft of a car was prevented because it started making noise? Most people who live in cities would like to see those things banned, if possible, and many cities have started writing tickets if the thing goes off unattended for more than a certain period of time. IMO, they are a menace to the little bit of peace and quiet we have left. End of rant.

I would agree with you but I have mine set so that if someone reaches into the open car (ie top down) they get a warning buzzer. If they refuse to back away, the alarm goes off and resets after 20 seconds. I have watched my car parked while at a cafe and have seen numerous people come over to check it out. It just keeps honest people honest.

Well if someone were to open their car and ding for door, for example, if it went off and I wasn't too far, then it would provide me with the chance to catch the guy.
