S2000 also temporarily replacing motorcycling for me (situation related to an unexpected move out of state forced sale of bikes).
Honestly, compared to riding, it keeps me satisfied, but far from happy. I thnk the S2k is a great addition to bikes, but no replacement.
I picked the earlier model for the higher redline, thinking that it would be more akin to the high rpm of a sportbike. If I could go back in time, I'd be more accepting of the lower rpm 2.2 liter engine for the torque. Both are great though, and you'll probably be happy with either. I don't think the engine is a make or break between the 2.0 and 2.2.
I say so because 9k rpm in a car does not feel like 9k rpm on a bike...it's much less smooth and throttle response is somewhat vague. Where as on a bike, 9k rpm is hardly working, 9k in the s2k sounds/feels like the engine is really working!
All in all, it'll probably be fun no matter which s2k you decide to get. For what it is, I've been very happy with mine.
Good luck with your search!

had 03 and now driving 04. as others have said, 03's higher rev was more fun compared to 04. however, i like the refinements on 04 such as interior and exterior changes. would love a 04+ body/interior with 03 engine...
good luck. 03 or 04 both are

For AP1, consider later 2002 and 2003. MY2000 and 2001 are too old I think, especially with the plastic rear window.
I think there's difference in ECU also from later 2002.

'03 is the best year if you like the 9k redline and are willing to forgo the improvements in interior/exterior from the AP2.
'04 is great if you like those improvements and don't care about the 8kvs9k argument....

I agree. if you want an AP1, go for a 2002 or 2003. i only got a 2001 becuase it came with a hardtop and only 32000 miles (summer 08).
plastic windows get real ugly and the glass ones just look much cleaner.

I searched and did not find anything so here is my question.
I am buying a S2Ki within the next few days. This will replace my motorcycle, so I am looking ofr something fun to drive. I have read about the changes between the 2003 and 2004 but I am looking for seat time experience/opinions.
Thanks for your help.

If you are calling the car a "s2ki" you should reconsider you car choice before you join the group who can't tell the s2000 from a miata.

Same situation here. No car is more fun than a (600cc or larger) standard or sport bike... Still, I did not feel the urge to ride my bike since I got the S. Whenever I rode the bike, I realized what I was missing.
The (fun, feel, rawness, power delivery) difference between AP1 and AP2 is negligible when compared to a bike. Both have windshields. Both rev a bit high for a car. Who cares? A bike will reach 60mph in three seconds and will be still in first gear, with 5 more to go... No car does that...
It is not easy to find something used you will like. Not abused, clean interior, no accident history, good owner, good price, etc.... I'd go with the best one I could find; regardless of model year. Both cars are the same from your (and mine) point of view.
